During the tedious process of making the molds for the bottles in Mood, I needed to make something more directly with my hands. I began to model these heart-like organs as I waited for my molds and castings to set. I initially intended to show them interspersed among the stark white medicine bottles. When my thinking for the bottles shifted, I decided that these needed to be part of a separate, but related work of art. I think they can influence the meaning of the bottles, but also are intimate on their own. I called this piece Affect to encourage associations with emotion that is removed from what we traditionally think of as feeling. We process emotions in our brains, but we feel them in our hearts, in our guts, in our bodies. I am interested in this relationship.
